It would appear that John Cleary hasn't been put off by losing out to Brian Cuthbert for the Cork football manager's post two years ago.

The Castlehaven man, who spent six successful years in charge of the Cork U21s, has refused to rule out letting his name go forward again after Cuthbert tendered his resignation yesterday.

"I wasn't too happy with a few things that went on back in 2013 when I went for the job, but I decided to say nothing," the 1989 and '90 All-Ireland winning forward told the Southern Star.

"I went for it, it didn't turn out too well and obviously it didn't happen, but that's all in the past.

"As regards going for it again, I wouldn't rule it in or rule it out. To be honest, I haven't even thought about it as it was only on Wednesday morning that it was confirmed that Brian decided to call it a day.

"You have to remember that this is a huge, huge job - it's a full-time job. You have to give consideration to your family and your own work, and I am self-employed."

In the same newspaper, recently-departed Tipperary manager and West Cork native Peter Creedon ruled himself out of the running after becoming principal of Colaiste Dun Iascaigh in Cahir.
