The Casement Park redevelopment controversy has taken another twist after Antrim GAA issued an apology to members of the Casement Park Social Club.

The apology comes after a bitter two-year standoff which followed Antrim county board's decision to shut the Social Club ahead of the start of a £77 million redevelopment of the stadium, which was subsequently refused planning permission.

The Casement Park Social Club went to court and won the right to continue trading at a temporary premises which will be built at a cost to Ulster GAA of more than £500,000.

In a dramatic U-turn, Antrim secretary Frank Quinn has sent a letter of apology to every club member, details of which are published in today's Irish News.

It reads: "We acknowledge that some of our actions up to this point were not conducive to the establishment and maintenance of a positive relationship, including the decision to issue letters to social club members over outstanding debt.

"In order to build trust and to enhance good faith between both parties, I would like to express our regret for these actions to the entire Casement Social Club membership and look forward to working with you to redress this hurt."
