Michael Darragh Macauley has welcomed the Dublin county board's decision to extend Jim Gavin's tenure.

It was recently announced that the 2013 All-Ireland winning manager will remain at the helm until the end of the 2017. The move lessens the pressure on Gavin delivering the Sam Maguire this year, and midfielder Macauley told the Irish Daily Star ahead of today's clash with Kildare: "Managers come out with long-term goals as to what they're going to do, how they're going to build a team and fix things from year to year. So it's important.

"You see in the Premiership, managers getting the chop every year. The discontinuity there, just doesn't work out.

"For Jim to come and set out his stall with a long-term goal is important.

"He's earned a shot over the last few years to do what he wants. Hopefully, looking forward, we're on an upward curve."
