Injured Waterford hurling star Pauric Mahony has sung the praises of manager Derek McGrath ahead of Sunday's Munster SHC semi-final against Cork.

The 23-year-old, who misses out because of the leg break he sustained in a club game last month, underlined the manager's contribution to the significant progress the Deise have made so far this year when a guest on Off The Ball last night.

"He's someone who we'd all very much look up to and we all want to follow in his path as best we can," he remarked.

"We're going in the right direction if we're following him."

Recalling the moment his inter-county season came to a premature end, Waterford's top scorer said: "It's just one of them things really.

"I was running through with the ball and the full-back came out and I handpassed the ball over his head and I turned my body and then my foot just got caught in the ground and on impact then I just felt my leg break and then I just hit the ground.

"After that it's all a bit of a blur."
