Peter Creedon has set the bar high for his Tipperary players.

Following on from their memorable run to the All-Ireland U-21 final, Creedon says the time has come for the Premier County to lay down a marker at senior level.

"We made a breakthrough at 21, which a lot of people said wouldn't happen," he remarked recently.

"What we need to start doing first is getting to Munster finals, we need to start beating Cork and Kerry, we haven't done that in a long, long time, then we need to take out a Division I team in the qualifiers."

U-21 goalkeeper Evan Comerford will make his championship debut against Waterford while Tipp football supporters will be delighted to see full-back Ciaran McDonald back in action after he missed the league campaign due to injury.

The Paddy Codd captained outfit are odds-on favourites to advance to a last four meeting with All-Ireland champions Kerry.

"The bookies don't often get it wrong and they have us well priced out of the race," Waterford boss Tom McGlinchey - who managed Tipperary from 2000 to 2002 - surmised.

"To put up a good show and a good performance against Tipperary - in Thurles, as well - would be a huge boost."

McGlinchey has handed goalkeeper Sean Barron (Ardmore) and midfielder Michael O'Halloran (Ballinacourty) their first championship starts.
