Derry forward Alan Grant knows that they will have to be at their best to see off the challenge of Down in the Christy Ring Cup semi-final on Saturday.

The sides meet at Owenbeg this weekend as Derry look forward to their first semi-final appearance in seven years.

And Grant acknowledged to the County Derry Post that any game against Down is always tough, no matter where it is played.

"We've always found it tough against Down," said Grant. "Even when they aren't at their best they always seem to put it against us.

"They're going from strength to strength this year, and it's going to be a tough aul game for us. We just about scraped past them last year and then in Ulster we drew with the after normal time, and drew with them after extra time, and even after another five minutes of extra time it was still a draw and it had to go to a replay. It's never an easy game between us.

"Down got a big lead up on London and never really let them get into it. We struggled against London ourselves, we just about scraped by."
