Tipperary Football Board chairman Joe Hannigan has backed U21 manager Tommy Toomey's decision to deny Feargal Logan access to the Premier County dressing-room.

When the Tyrone boss tried to get into the losing dressing-room in the wake of the All-Ireland final at Parnell Park on Saturday night to console the Tipp lads, he found that his presence was unwelcome.

"As far as we were concerned, our manager Tommy Toomey waited for Feargal Logan on the side of the pitch to have a word with him," Hannigan tells The Irish Independent.

"He shook his hand, congratulated him, wished him well. Tommy did his part. We didn't want a situation where something might be said. It would have done no good for him to come in 20 minutes or half an hour after the game."

Regarding the Red Hands' behaviour during the course of the match, the Tipperary chairman adds that they weren't expecting the cynicism to manifest itself on such a scale:

"We were aware of it, we knew what we were coming up against but we didn't think to the extent of what it was. We were playing Munster football up along and the boys were only playing minor and it's a lot more innocent. We understand that now."
