Kevin Ryan was euphoric after Antrim put their early-season woes behind them to beat Laois in a sensational Leinster SHC opener at Ballycastle.

Relegated to Division 2A of the Allianz League for 2016, the Saffrons dug deep to record their first victory of the season thanks to Ciaran Clarke's last-gasp penalty.

"The emotion… there's so much bottled up over the past couple of months and I feel for those fellas in there for some of the criticism they've taken," the under-pressure Antrim manager told the Irish News.

"Some of it was deserved - we criticise ourselves enough - but some of the s***e that was talked… I remember talking to the lads about this last week, seasons can turn in one small little thing.

"I won't say it was luck, but we needed something to turn it for us and that last-second penalty, well, hopefully it will take us round that bend."
