Are pigeons becoming addicted to gaelic football?

Spectators at Sunday's league final double-header at Croke Park may have noticed that there were a lot of pigeons in attendance.

The birds looked to be thoroughly enjoying the Division One and Two deciders and at times they seemed keen to get in on the action. However, GAA chiefs have ruled out the theory that our feathered friends have developed a love of the national game. Instead, it's the seeds at HQ that they are after.

"The pigeons seemingly love the grass seed and because of the high number of matches we have been seeding a lot," GAA spokesman Alan Milton told The Irish Examiner.

"But when the seeding programme eases off then so too will the presence of pigeons so I don't think we will be seeing as many come championship."
