Munnelly: we are not safe either

Ross Munnelly gains possession as Donal Keogan Meath closes in during the NFL Divison 2 game at Pairc Tailteann.

The Laois footballers have successfully managed to find form in Division 2 but captain Ross Munnelly is advising caution.

The O'Moore County enter this weekend's local derby against Kildare on a high after collecting five points from a possible six in their last three outings.

They still have work to do, however, according to the 32-year-old Arles-Kilcruise clubman.

"It was a tough couple of weeks at the start of the league but we weren't really panicking or anything like that because we had put ourselves in good positions against Westmeath and against Cavan but didn't get the results," he remarked to The Irish Independent.

"And then in the last couple of days we have started killing off games and maybe getting the rub of the green so we feel that we are playing more to our potential now and that is pleasing.

"We are trying to improve and build with every game. We have some older guys and some younger guys and we are starting to knit together a little bit better now so hopefully we can take it into the next game."

The Lilywhites have just two points to their name but Munnelly expects them to come out fighting in Portlaoise.

"We have a very quick turnaround, but we are in a good position going into it and hopefully the momentum that we have going in there will give us a bit of an edge.

"Still we are only on five points and we are not safe either. We were happy enough beating Galway and it moves us further up the table and if we got a result the next day we would be looking at entirely different things and let's hope it's that way.

"But Kildare are a good team, they have plenty of good footballers and the games down through the years have always been tough."
