Young Footballer of the Year nominee Shane Walsh is anxiously waiting for his chance to show Kevin Walsh what he is capable of.

The Kilkerrin/Clonberne clubman has had to be content with a place on the Tribesmen's bench for their last three league outings but he kicked three points after being introduced as a substitute in their recent defeat to Cavan.

He hopes he has done enough to earn a place on the starting 15 for this Sunday's rescheduled clash with Laois.

"The lads are going very well there at the moment," Walsh remarked to The Irish Independent.

"It's just a matter for me to try and break back into the team, we all have to do your bit at the end of the day.

"At the moment the lads are doing that a bit more and they are getting their just rewards. Hopefully I can get back in around the team and hopefully we'll get a result this weekend as well.

"I am dying for the championship to come around but we have to take care of the league first, get a couple of good results and get promotion."

He continued: "That was a disappointing result against Cavan, but we had two wins before and have two defeats now.

"Look at Cavan, they had two defeats and they came back fighting and Laois had the same at the start of the league.

"The league is wide open at the moment anyone could go up. There is about six teams ready to go up and it's very unfortunate that two teams have to go down.

"We are looking to promotion all the time and hopefully we can get there in the end."
