Ryan: the pressure is on

Kildare manager Jason Ryan.

Jason Ryan admits Kildare face an uphill struggle to avoid back-to-back relegations after suffering their first ever Allianz League defeat to Westmeath today.

Demoted from the top flight along with Westmeath last season, the Lilywhites are in danger of dropping to Division 3 next year after what was their third straight defeat in Division 2.

Kildare have three away games to come, starting against Cavan in Kingspan Breffni Park next Saturday night and their under-fire manager conceded: "Yeah, the pressure is on for Cavan and for the following games against Roscommon and against Laois and Galway. It doesn't get any easier."

Meanwhile, Tom Cribbin was surprised to learn that it was the Lake County's first ever league win over his native county.

"Gary [Connaughton] came to me after and he said he'd never ever in all of his career beaten Kildare in a league match. Jesus I couldn't believe that.

"It's no wonder they battled so hard," the delighted Clane man said.
