Clarke is new Westmeath hurling captain

Westmeath's Aonghus Clarke strikes as Antrim's Barry McFall closes in during the Leinster SHC at Cusack Park

Aonghus Clarke will captain the Westmeath hurlers this year.

New manager Michael Ryan confirmed the 21-year-old Castletown-Geoghegan clubman's appointment after yesterday's emphatic Allianz Hurling League Division 2A victory over London in Mullingar. Aonghus, whose older brother Joe is also a key member of the team, takes over the captaincy from Eoin Price.

Tyrrellspass' Ger Egan was recently installed as Westmeath football skipper.
