Work and college commitments have forced Tommy Dunne to step down from his role as coach to the Dublin senior hurlers.

The 2001 Tipperary All-Ireland winning captain was appointed to the role by new manager Ger Cunningham in November, having also been involved in former manager Anthony Daly's backroom team.

"I'm unable to continue as coach with Dublin senior hurlers," the self-employed Toomevara man told the Sunday Independent.

"I have returned to part-time education, studying for a Master's in Sports Performance at the University of Limerick. My class times are every Monday and Tuesday until 5pm and 6pm respectively until the middle of May.

"The course is two years part-time and I just commenced it last month. I am also self-employed with significant travel involved for work. Because of that I am unable to commit to huge time demands now required for top-level team preparation."

He added: "It was a really enjoyable experience working with the Dublin players, management and board over the last two to three years and I wish all involved every success in the future," he concluded.
