Derry attacker Aaron Devlin has had 40 weeks cut off the ban he received for comments about a match official on Twitter.

Devlin received the ban in the wake of Ballinderry's Derry SFC final defeat to Slaughtneil and it was historic as it was the first time a GAA player was suspended over comments posted on social media.

However, the ban was subsequently halved by the Derry Hearings Committee before being further reduced by Ulster Council's Hearings Committee to the minimum eight weeks, setting a new precedent for how players will be punished for social media outbursts.

Devlin is now free to feature for UUJ in the Sigerson Cup and can also rejoin the Derry squad, if selected to do so.

Meanwhile, Ballinderry goalkeeper Mickey Conlan was cleared of a charge of assaulting a match official, while county defender Gareth McKinless was unsuccessful in appealing his 48-week ban.
