Kennedy: Tipp can be a top dual county

Loughmore-Castleiney dual star David Kennedy

Former Tipperary hurler David Kennedy believes that the county can become a dual force similar to Cork, Dublin and Galway.

Kennedy, who was centre back on Tipp's 2001 All-Ireland senior hurling winning team, captained Loughmore-Castleiney in yesterday's county football final replay victory over Cahir and is confident that hurling and football can't successfully co-exist at senior inter-county level in the Premier County.

"It's great to see Tipperary going well because there's definitely room for both codes in the county with the population that we have and the resources we have," Kennedy told the Irish Independent.

"There's no reason why we can't be on a par with the likes of Cork, Dublin and Galway.

"We should be getting more out of our resources than what we are at the moment."

The 38-year-old lined-out at centre-field yesterday as Loughmore collected their 13th Tipperary SFC title with a 0-9 to 2-2 win over Cahir.
