This Sunday's annual Limerick GAA convention will see the chairman's position being contested for the first time in 18 years.

In a remarkable twist of fate, two decades have elapsed when there was no contest needed to appoint the Limerick GAA chairman.

However, that will all change at the Ballylanders GAA clubhouse this weekend as chairman Oliver Mann is being challenged by vice-chairman Pat Heffernan for the top seat.

Mann has just completed two years as chairman and he becomes the first person in that position to be challenged since 1986 when Gerry Bennis ran against Brendan Danaher.

There will be only one more election at the convention as three people Mickey O'Sullivan, Liam Lenihan and Frank Reidy are running for the two Munster Council delegate positions.
