"My heart was broken at the start of the summer"

Gary Sice was bitterly disappointed to be omitted from Galway's championship panel in 2014.

The Tribesmen still went on to contest the Connacht final and an All-Ireland quarter-final, but Sice - who is dreaming of a county recall - gave new manager Kevin Walsh a glimpse of his quality with a Man of the Match display for Corofin in Sunday's Connacht club final victory over Ballintubber:

"My heart was broken at the start of the summer," the 30-year-old told The Irish Independent. "I hope people know now that it wasn't me, and now you know why I should have been there. I felt I had a point to prove.

"I love playing for Galway and if the door is open I will go back there.

"The lads that were there put on a huge display in Croke Park and brought back a lot of pride to the Galway jersey. Like anyone else, if I get a chance again, I would love to do it."
