Injured Mullingar Shamrocks full back Kieran Gavin expects Sunday's Westmeath SFC final against Garrycastle to be a cagey affair.

It will be the fifth meeting of the modern-day rivals in a county final (including two replays) since 2010, and county star Gavin, who has missed most of the championship with an Achilles tendon injury, predicted in the Westmeath Topic: "Tactics will play a big part. They are huge, especially if it's a weekend where there's a lot of rain. You'd expect full defences and then just tipping away at scores.

"Both teams are in a final. Garrycastle have won their way there also. Momentum is with both teams really. I don't believe it gives us an edge. Donegal had all the momentum going into the All-Ireland final and it didn't help them.

"It will probably be won and lost in both forward lines."
