Carlow SHC final: 24th title for St. Mullin's

October 20, 2014

Marty Kavanagh St Mullins and Carlow. INPHO

St. Mullin's 0-9
Naomh Eoin 0-7

St. Mullin's came from behind to win a record 24th Carlow SHC title following a low-scoring final at Dr Cullen Park.

Celebrating their centenary this year, the Saints looked to be in a spot of bother when they trailed by 0-3 to 0-6 at the break, but they turned it around in the second half, restricting their opponents to just a single score in the process.

In slippery conditions, the winners had wiped out Naomh Eoin's half-time advantage by the 42nd minute thanks to points from James Doyle, Marty Kavanagh and John Murphy.

The final 23 minutes only produced two points from Seamus Murphy and Marty Kavanagh, which were enough to give Mullin's an historic success. The Myshall men had one final chance to win it, but John Michael Nolan's last-minute close-in free was saved.
