Dromintee have released a statement explaining their version of events concerning Friday night's farcical Armagh SFC clash with Crossmaglen.

Unable to field their first team due to a wedding, the club sent out a token starting XV including men in jeans, who didn't even contest a ball in the bizarre match at the Athletic Grounds. The committee took these actions to apparently avoid the possibility of Dromintee being suspended from all competitions.

"We were faced with the prospect of a direct clash with a family wedding within the team that included two brothers in the bridal party and nine players," reads the statement as published in The Belfast Telegraph.

"Representations were made to the Armagh CCC after our first round qualifier to avoid a clash before provisional fixtures were set in stone. Any possible date bar the one chosen would have met our request. No accommodation was made.

"The club had been placed in a difficult position and we understand the steps the committee took to preserve our status and to protect the other teams in the club."
