Seamus McEnaney during his spell as Meath manager

Seamus McEnaney is the latest name to be linked with the vacant Westmeath football manager's job.

The former Monaghan and Meath boss , who is currently at the helm of his home club Corduff, recently spoke of his intention to return to inter-county management within the next 12 months and has already been mentioned as a possible successor to James McCartan in Down.

Westmeath have had a number of high-profile 'outside' managers in the past, including the late Paidi O Se who delivered an historic Leinster SFC title 10 years ago, but whether they have the resources to go down that route on this occasion remains to be seen.

While clubs called for a "proven inter-county manager" to be appointed after voting to remove Paul Bealin at a county board meeting earlier this month, the top table suggested that this may not be possible due to financial constraints.
