Kildare defender Fergal Conway knows that Saturday's All-Ireland SFC quarterfinal will be a physical battle.

Much was made of the comments made by Kildare manager Jason Ryan in the aftermath of the defeat to Meath about the physical strength of the Royals.

Conway stressed to the Kildare Nationalist that they have now adapted to that side of the game, which he expects to see in abundance this weekend.

"We shouldn't be shocked now, we know what we are going to get now," said Conway. "Jason spoke after the Meath game and said that a few lads were shocked by the physicality but this is championship football and it's do or die on Saturday.

"There is going to be a big physical element brought by Monaghan and we'll need to meet that head on. They did well in the league and were probably very disappointed to lose the Ulster final to Donegal.

"They are going to be up for this game, they have a point to prove. They are a big physical team, they try to impose that on teams and that is something that we are going to be up against."
