Nineteen players drop off Tipp panel

A total of 19 players have now dropped off the Tipperary senior ladies football squad.

Ladies football in the Premier County has been plunged into crisis as 14 players have made themselves unavailable after manager John Leahy originally axed five star players from his squad last month.

Kelly Hackett, Máiread Morrissey, Jennifer Grant, Patricia Hickey and Samantha Lambert were the five players let go by Leahy and they have been joined in exile by girls from the Aherlow, Galtee Rovers, Brian Borus, Moycarkey, Ardfinnan and Cahir clubs.

Going into the Munster and All-Ireland intermediate championship without so many regulars, the situation looks increasingly untenable for Leahy, whose makeshift side was beaten by 40 points by Armagh in a recent Division Three league semi-final.

The matter is sure to be raised by club delegates at tonight's board meeting in Cashel.
