"They are afraid of being seen as anti-Jim McGuinness"

Donegal clubs are up in arms over the cancellation of league games on Good Friday
Former inter-county footballer John Haran has called on Croke Park to come to the rescue of Donegal's club players.

The St Eunan's, Letterkenny clubman issued the plea in the wake of the county board's decision to call off a full round of league fixtures that were scheduled for tomorrow, Good Friday.

"If you speak out about it, you are seen as being against the county team. That is why certain people won't speak up," Haran said to the Irish News.

"They are afraid of being seen as anti-Jim McGuinness. But it's not about Jim.

"It's about getting the balance right, and the balance isn't right at the minute.

"We have no problem giving them [the county team] a fair crack of the whip in preparation for Derry, but this is a bit ridiculous."

The time has come for Croke Park to intervene argues Haran.

"Three Ardara players made arrangements to get off work on Friday because they thought they had a game. Now they have no game. It's a joke.

"If the county board makes fixtures, they have to stick to them. This will have to go to Croke Park. Someone must take a stand. It has gone beyond a joke."
