Donegal have been asked to explain their controversial club fixtures schedule with the GAA's powers that be.

After a meeting with county manager Jim McGuinness, Donegal's clubs voted not to play any senior club championship matches in 2014 until after the county team has exited the Sam Maguire race.

This has raised eyebrows outside the county and - according to today's Irish Independent - the County Board has been summoned to a meeting at Headquarters to discuss their intentions.

Chairman Sean Dunnion says he is surprised by the development as no rules have been broken.

He points out that the vote was taken by all the senior and intermediate clubs in the county after they voted against playing two initial rounds in April and May.

While it is not uncommon for club championship matches to be deferred until after the intercounty campaign has ended, the fact that Donegal voted on the matter and have set it in stone seems to have caused concern at national level.
