The Swatragh GAA club have received an apology from Joe Brolly.

Brolly has made national headlines this week following his comments about Tyrone midfielder Sean Cavanagh after he pulled down Monaghan's Conor McManus during last Saturday's All-Ireland SFC quarterfinal.

In last Sunday's Irish Daily Mail, Brolly wrote about an under-16 championship match between Swatragh and Glen and stated that 'a good friend of mine coaches the Glen under-16 team. During the past week, they played a championship against Swatragh. He watched appalled as his players were systematically hauled down outside the danger area. Swatragh also played two sweepers,' wrote Brolly.

The former Derry star also referred to the match during his rant on RTE, but he has since apologised to the club over his comments about the club.

Swatragh chairman Liam McQuillan told the County Derry Post that Brolly had rang me at the weekend to apologise over his remarks.

"On Sunday evening, I was contacted by Joe Brolly who apologised for the inaccuracies in his article which were, in our opinion, an insult to Swatragh and a slight on the young players involved in what had been an exceptionally good football match," said McQuillan.

The club had posted an open letter in the County Derry post expressing their dismay over the comments made by Brolly.
