Legendary country music singer Big Tom has promised to write a song about the Monaghan footballers if they beat Tyrone in Saturday's All-Ireland quarter-final.

Like all Farney supporters, the 76-year-old Castleblayney man rejoiced in last month's famous Ulster final victory over All-Ireland champions Donegal and could now be about to pay tribute to Malachy O'Rourke's men in his own inimitable way.

"We have just as good a chance as any and if they do (reach the semi-finals), a song could very well be on the cards," he told the Irish Daily Star.

Meanwhile, the Donegal singer who brought us "Jimmy's Winning Matches" last year is also toying with the idea of penning a fresh anthem now that the Tir Chonaill men's All-Ireland bid is back on track.

"People have asked me to do another All-Ireland song," revealed Kilcar man Rory Gallagher, who is busy running The Island Bar, which he opened in Lanzarote earlier this year.
