Former Waterford hurler Paul Flynn believes Michael Walsh was inspirational for the Decies in the league.

The Waterford defender produced some sublime displays throughout the campaign and Flynn feels he led by example throughout.

Walsh has been outstanding for Waterford since his switch to centre back a few years back and writing in his weekly column in the Waterford News & Star, Flynn was wholesome in his praise for the Stradbally clubman.

"Waterford had some standout performers in the league, but Michael Walsh at centre back was the player of the league," stressed Flynn.

"His ability to read the flight of the ball and cover either side sets him apart from other half backs at the moment. The one danger would be a top side employing a sharp shooter to lap up loose breaking ball around the forty and pick up some scores."
