The ongoing dispute between the GAA and residents around Croke Park continued with a protest at Congress on Friday.

The residents are furious at plans for the Croke Park Community & Handball Centre, which the GAA wishes to redevelop. Local residents believe the plans will see them lose access to the facilty, which is used as a community centre.

The dispute the focus of an RTE Prime Time television programme last year.

Pairc An Chrocaigh Teo, the corporate arm of Croke Park, has initiated legal action against a number of local residents, some of whom are GAA members.

Rule 1.9 of the GAA forbids the association taking legal action against its members, but solicitors for Pairc An Chrocaigh Teo (PACT) have said that the company is not a unit of the GAA.

"Many colleagues that are GAA members like us are very troubled by this revelation," said a spokesman for the Croke Park residents and Community & Handball Centre. "In addition to the fact that the taxpayer has given over €110 million to fund the Croke Park stadium asset held by PACT."
