Laois hurling manager Seamus Plunkett
Laois hurling manager Seamus 'Cheddar' Plunkett has assembled an experienced backroom team.

Following months of turmoil, Plunkett was unveiled as the new manager taking over from Teddy McCarthy, who stepped down after their championship exit.

Laois hurling hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons in 2012 and Plunkett will be aiming for the hurlers to regain some respect this year.

According to the Leinster Express, Plunkett has brought in experienced coach Ger Cunningham as well as Camross' Damien Culliton, who will be a selector.

Cunningham has an impressive CV having guided Newtownshandrum to the All-Ireland club title in 2004, while the Limerick native also had success with Thurles Sarsfields and UL.

The National Athlete Development Academy (NADA) are also to provide the strength and conditioning for the squad.
