Ryan turns down Deise

September 17, 2012

Wexford football manager Jason Ryan
Jason Ryan has turned down the chance to manage his native Waterford.

The De La Salle clubman, who stood down after five years in charge of Wexford earlier this month, was the Waterford county board's number one choice to fill the vacancy left by John Owens. However, a disappointed Waterford chairman Tom Cunningham confirmed to WLR FM that Ryan isn't interested in the position.

Ryan, who was linked with the Waterford hurling manager's post before it went to Michael Ryan this time last year, is regarded as one of the best young managers in the country after leading Wexford to two Leinster finals (against Dublin in 2008 and 2011) and an All-Ireland semi-final appearance in 2008.
