Armagh SHC: Middletown retain crown
03 September 2012
Middletown 0-13
Armagh Cuchulainns 0-12
In one of the first county finals of the year, holders Middletown claimed their 11th Armagh SHC title after edging out Armagh Cuchulainns at the Morgan Athletic Grounds yesterday.
Middletown prevailed despite hitting a number of poor wides against opponents who were seeking their first title in 23 years. The sides were level on 0-7 apiece at half-time with Christopher Coulter scoring four points from frees for the challengers, while Conor McCann, David Carvill, Ethan Carvill, Ryan Gaffney and Marty Moan all scored from play for Middletown.
The champions twice opened up a two-point lead in the second half, but struggled to shake off a Cuchulainns side who missed a glorious chance to take victory when Declan Coulter's shot on goal was saved by Padraig Moan in the 48th minute.
