Preview: SFC Qualifier - Roscommon v Armagh
June 29, 2012
Rival managers Des Newton Roscommon and Armagh's Paddy O'Rourke
There will have been a lot of soul-searching done in Roscommon since their crushing Connacht SFC first round defeat to Galway on May 20.
The Tribesmen's subsequent loss to Sligo has certainly painted that performance in a very bad light, and Roscommon supporters will be demanding a vast improvement when Armagh come to town for the first championship meeting of the counties since 1980, when the Connacht side booked their place in the All-Ireland final thanks to a 2-20 to 3-11 victory.
Armagh, who came out of their narrow Ulster SFC quarter-final defeat to Tyrone with a lot of credit, will be wary of a Roscommon backlash, but in Brendan Donaghy, Aaron Kernan, Kieran McKeever, Malachy Mackin and Jamie Clarke, they have players who can see them through this one.
Verdict: Armagh
Roscommon - TBC
Armagh - Philip McEvoy; Andy Mallon, Brendan Donaghy, Declan McKenna; Finian Moriarty, Ciaran McKeever, Paul Duffy; Malachy Mackin, Kieran Toner; Aidan Forker, Kevin Dyas, Anto Duffy; Jamie Clarke, Caolan Rafferty, Brian Mallon.
Odds: Roscommon 3/1, Draw 15/2, Armagh 1/3
