Connaughton not impressed

Westmeath's Gary Connaughton and Paraic Smith of Louth during the NFL Div 3 League decider at Croke Park
Gary Connaughton feels life is getting increasingly difficult for a GAA goalkeeper.
On Sunday, Westmeath take on Louth in the first round of the 2012 Leinster SFC at Navan and this will be the first time the Lake County stopper has experienced the new square-ball rule.
Speaking in The Irish Independent, the Tubberclair man says it's just the latest measure introduced by Association bigwigs that makes the plight of the goalkeeper more difficult:
"First they moved the penalty in closer, and now take the square-ball rule. We haven't been having much luck.
"I'm not sure how this change will work out, but it makes things more difficult for goalkeepers anyway."
As for the Maroons' chances of putting one over on the Wee County, the 2008 All Star adds:
"For whatever reason we just can't seem to get over the line against them, but there hasn't been much in it. We have to back ourselves.
"We were told we were certs for relegation and looked what happened there."
