O'Sullivan: big men are best

April 14, 2012
Selector Ger O'Sullivan admits that Cork have purposely opted for bigger players down the years.

The Rebels are the most physically imposing team in the country with Noel O'Leary, at 5'11", being the only member of the current side that is under six foot.

"From underage I would think that the managements of the different teams have gone for a big, good fella," he said in the Irish Sun.

"Basically we think a big, good fella is better than a small, good fella. That is the tendency in Cork - to go for quite big players.

"We have it in height but with the amount of training these guys do out of season - they work very, very hard - they have a lot of bulk and muscle.

"I suppose we have quite a big pick here in Cork which helps if that is the policy. We find that height and size is important in the current game. We do have some light players but generally they are definitely bigger."
