Clubs likely to vote Banty out if he won't 'walk'

Meath manager Seamus McEnaney and selectors Tom Keague and Graham Geraghty watch the opening round of the Meath SFC at Ashbourne
A full county board meeting will be called to decide the future of Séamus McEnaney as Meath manager if the Monaghan man does not take up the option of voluntarily resigning.

Following a management meeting of the county board executive, McEnaney was given 24-hours to tender his resignation or else club delegates would be called in to vote on a motion for him to be removed as Meath manager.

Indications are that McEnaney does not wish to walk away and has been trying to drum up support. While he has the backing of a number of his players, not all of the squad are willing to support him with a number privately questioning his ability to continue. Regardless of that it is likely that the squad will issue a statement, although their ability to meet is made difficult by the fact that the Meath club championships get underway tonight and continue this weekend.

McEnaney along with selectors Graham Geraghty and Tom Keague was present at the hoganstand.com sponsored Meath SFC game this evening between Dunboyne and Dunshaughlin in Ashbourne, which indicates that he wishes to continue in his role.

Club delegates are keen to have their say on the issue and if a vote of confidence on his tenure was held at a county board meeting early next week, there is little doubt that he would lose heavily.

Contingency plans are in place to put a temporary management team in place although understandably there is an unwillingness for anybody to have their name linked to the role while McEnaney is still in situ.
