Ulster U21FC: McCurry inspires Tyrone

March 22, 2012
Tyrone 0-12
Donegal 0-6

Darren McCurry scored five points as Tyrone justified their favouritism with a double-scores victory over Donegal in last night's Cadbury Ulster U21FC quarter-final at Healy Park.

Raymond Munroe's highly-rated Red Hands, who can now look forward to a semi-final date with Down, dominated for long stages, though the visitors will rue not turning their possession into scores when on top midway through the second half.

With McCurry on fire, Tyrone were in complete control for much of the first half and it took Donegal 28 minutes to open their account through Dermot 'Brick' Molloy's fisted point. Patrick McBrearty followed up with a brilliant long-range point, but the hosts still led by 0-7 to 0-2 at the break.

Donegal closed the gap to four points thanks to scores from McBrearty and a Sean McGarvey '45 on the restart before Tomas Canavan eased Tyrone's nerves with their first point in 18 minutes, and they finished strongly to run out comfortable winners.
