No assumptions from McGee

February 02, 2012

Roscommon's Stephen Ormsby moves in on Sligo's Colm McGee during the Connacht SFC Final at Castlebar.
Returning Sligo marksman Colm McGee is taking nothing for granted.

The Tubbercurry man was on the sideline for most of last year, ruled out by a shoulder injury, having starred for the Yeats County in 2010, his debut season at intercounty level.

He's back on board now and was one of the stars of his side's FBD league campaign but the 25-year-old is making no assumptions about his prospects of nailing down a place in the team.

With the Division Three opener against Antrim looming, he comments in the Sligo Champion: "I'm not going to assume anything.

"It was frustrating missing last season and it's great to be back but I know I have to work hard and produce my best form if I'm to get into the team.

"I'll be grateful to get a chance and it's up to me to make the most of the opportunity when it comes along.

"I was happy to get a few games under my belt in the Connacht league. The shoulder took a few hits and stood up to them, so I know I'm ready if I'm called upon."
