Colm Parkinson in Laois colours
Colm Parkinson has vowed not to play for Portlaoise again unless the current management duo of Mick Lillis and Mark Kavanagh step aside.
The former Laois star, who returned to play for his home club this year after a season with Parnells in Dublin - blasted the pair after he was substituted twice during last Sunday's AIB Leinster club SFC semi-final defeat to St. Brigid's. He claimed his re-introduction for extra-time was ordered by Portlaoise full back Cahir Healy, and not the team management.
"Some of the decisions they make are absolutely crazy," he blasted in an interview with Newstalk.
"I don't know whether they're going to stay on next year but their totally out of their depth. It's hard to keep your mouth shut with these two fellas.
"To be honest, there wouldn't be a hope I'd go back playing with Portlaoise if the two of them were involved in the team next year. Their idea of doing video work is just showing you a video straight through. It's just pure laziness. If there was a new manager, you never know."
Lillis has defended the decision to substitute Parkinson in both normal-time and extra-time.
"I think it's sad and a pity that heresorted to the airwaves to voice his displeasure," he said
"I'm just disappointed that he did that, it takes from the club and from the senior football panel. It was a very good game and unfortunately we came out the wrong side of it. We are all frustrated and disappointed after it. At that time when we headed into extra time, I felt his experience would help us.
"It's common enough in GAA to bring players back on if a game goes to extra-time as they can be more suited to how a game has changed. It's a measure of how we regard him that we brought him back on.
"He wasn't playing particularly well in the first half and I have no problem with that decision."
