Ex-GAA President set for World senior games

Former GAA President Dr Mick Loftus is to set off later this week to take part in the World Senior Games.

Dr Loftus will take part in a number of different disciplines including the 3,000 metres, 800 metres, 200 metres and 100 metres over the course of two weeks.

The opening ceremony for the games takes place this Sunday, October 2nd where the games will be held in St George, Utah, USA.

The games cater for the over 50s and the Crossmolina native has been preparing diligently for the games over the past number of months.

"I have put in the hard work for the games doing three miles every night, five or six nights of the week," said Dr Loftus to the Mayo News. "I feel in great shape and hope to give a good account of myself."

Dr Loftus was President of the GAA from 1985 to 1987 and has won numerous awards during a prestigious career.
