Hugh Lynch won't play any part in Kildare's All-Ireland football qualifier against Meath tomorrow, despite being named in Kieran McGeeney's starting XV.

The Confey clubman suffered a knee injury in training and his place at midfield is expected to be taken by Darryl Flynn. The news comes as a huge blow to the Lilywhites after Lynch's man of the match performance in last weekend's rout of Laois, which was decorated by three monstrous points from play in the second half.

There are fears that the player may have damaged his cruciate, but this has yet to be confirmed. Kildare have already lost Dermot Earley for the season with a cruciate injury, while Mikey Conway is only just returning from a similar injury after a two-year layoff.

Better news for Kildare is that Lynch's midfield partner against Laois, John Doyle, came through training last night without any problems, having been rated as an injury doubt earlier in the week. Tweet
