Video: GAA President visits Shankill Road Primary School

June 20, 2011

A little bit of history was made today when GAA Present Christy Cooney visited school children on in the heartland of Unionism.

"To see the kids participating in a game of hurling was truly remarkable. This was one of the most special days of my Presidency," said GAA President Christy Cooney after a visit to a Primary School on the Shankill Road in Belfast where Protestant and Catholic children play hurling together.

Under a cross-community scheme involving four schools, the game of hurling has been a big hit.

"The reaction has been all positive," declares Jonathan Manning, Principal of Edenbrooke Primary School. "And having the GAA President here is day to be remembered by all of the boys and girls."
