NHL 1: Dubs move top of table
March 13, 2011
Dublin 3-21
Wexford 2-15
Dublin lead the way in Division 1 of the Allianz Hurling League after a nine-point win at Wexford Park.
Dotsy O'Callaghan scored all three majors for the Sky Blues, with Ryan Dwyer providing all three assists.
Dublin led by 2-10 to 2-5 at the break, after Wexford had fought back well. Jim Berry struck all the hosts' first-half points from frees.
The visitors suffered a pre-match blow when the inspirational Conal Keaney was ruled out, to be replaced by Dotsy O'Callaghan in the Dubs starting team; John McCaffrey had them ahead from a first-minute free.
Jim Berry levelled but Ryan Dwyer (free), Joey Boland, and an O'Callaghan goal helped make it 1-4 to 0-2. O'Callaghan added another goal and it was 2-4 to 0-3, with all Wexford's scores coming from Berry.
Berry hit a Model County goal, 2-6 to 1-4, but Dwyer landed three successive Dublin points to make it 2-9 to 1-4.
A Gareth Sinnott goal made it 2-4 to 2-9 approaching the break and Wexford would be playing into the town end with wind advantage after the restart. There was a further point each before the short whistle.
Berry pointed again on the restart but Dotsy completed his hat-trick of goals - all set up by Dwyer: 3-11 to 2-7 eight minutes into the second half.
The next six points were traded as Dublin maintained their seven-point lead. Anthony Daly's men held out for a comfortable win.
With the small matter of Kilkenny, Cork and Galway still to come, the Dubs are in a happy place.
