U21FC: Derry spear Armagh hopes

March 10, 2011
Derry 2-10
Armagh 3-3

Fancied Armagh were dumped out of the Cadbury Ulster U21FC at the first hurdle following a topsy-turvy game at Celtic Park on Wednesday evening.

The Orchard County side included seven of those who brought the All-Ireland minor title to Armagh in September 2009.

They were in front at the half-time break despite playing into the teeth of a strong wind, with Caolan Rafferty, Aidan Forker and Gavin McParland all finding the net to give the visitors a 3-1 to 1-6 interval advantage.

However, they could add just two further scores with the wind at their backs in the second half and Derry, who hit the front through Cailean O'Boyle's goal immediately after the restart, were able to close out a convincing victory.

Derry will now travel to Monaghan for an Ulster quarter-final encounter next Wednesday (16 March).
