U21FC: Treaty deny Clare in cracker

March 10, 2011
Limerick 2-11
Clare 0-15
(After extra-time)

Limerick advanced in the Cadbury Munster U21 FC on Wednesday night after a dramatic encounter against neighbours Clare.

Clare looked to be on course for victory for much of this encounter at the Gaelic Grounds, and as the clock ticked passed the hour mark they led by 0-12 to 1-6.

However, James Kelly's last-gasp goal for Limerick took the game to extra-time, and with momentum on their side the home side hit five points in the extra 20 minutes to secure their place in the last four.

It was tough on Clare, who had made light of the adverse conditions in the second half of normal time to extend their one-point half-time lead to three, with Cathal McInerney in hugely impressive form.

Limerick had kept in touch through a first half goal from Jack Donovan and a series of scores, from play and frees, from Eoghan O'Connor, and when Kelly struck to force the game to extra-time the wind was completely taken out of the visitors sails.

Both sides finished the game down to 14 men following red cards for Limerick full back Mike Sheehan and Podge Collins of Clare for second bookable offences.
