Centre forward Conor Lynam scored five points from play as Westmeath dismissed the challenge of Offaly in the Cadbury Leinster U21FC at Pairc Ciaran in Athlone on Wednesday night.

The Lake County went into the game as hot favourites following a 10-point win over Laois two weeks previously and their passage to the Leinster semi-finals never looked in any doubt.

Despite playing into a strong wind the home side were five points in front before Offaly registered their first score of the night, from Brian Connor nine minutes before the break.

Lynam, who has featured in all three of Westmeath's Allianz National League games over the past month, was ably assisted by free-taker Ian Coffey, who finished the game with four points, and James Dolan, the scorer of two points from the half-back line.

Westmeath can now look forward to a semi-final against Longford at Pearse Park in two weeks' time, when they will be able to call on teen star John Heslin after suspension.
