Friday resolution possible for McKenna Cup

A National Football League game between Derry and Dublin under lights in 2010
The final of the Barrett Sports Lighting Dr McKenna Cup between Derry and Tyrone could take place on a Friday night next month.

The game had been pencilled in for Saturday night last but was postponed following news of the death of Paddy Harte, brother of Tyrone manager Mickey, earlier in the day.

The competition has already been delayed by the freezing weather conditions and the tragedy which saw Mickey's daughter Michaela McAreavey murdered on honeymoon last month.

The final cannot be played on either of the next two weekends, which are given over to National Football League duty, so the earliest it could realistically take place is the weekend of March 4-6, and the Irish News reports that it could well be scheduled for the Friday evening under lights.

Both Tyrone and Derry are back in action in NFL Division 2 next weekend, with the Red Hand County taking on Ulster rivals Donegal in Omagh and Derry making the trip to Newbridge to meet Kildare.
