Waterford Crystal Cup: WIT eclipse Tipp
January 16, 2011

Tipperary hurling manager Declan Ryan
Waterford IT 2-17
Tipperary 1-19
New Tipperary manager Declan Ryan made a losing start to life in the Premier County hotseat as Waterford IT claimed victory in the Waterford Crystal Cup at Clonmel on Sunday.
Ryan's first team selection bore little resemblance to the 15 on duty for last September's All-Ireland final win over Tipperary, with Conor O'Mahony the only constant.
Intriguingly, it was Ryan's fellow Clonoulty-Rossmore man Timmy Hammersley who emerged as the scoring hero on the day, racking up 1-10 to fire WIT to victory by a single point.
Cathal Parlon of Offaly was also in good scoring form for the victors, contributing 1-4 on the day.
Tipp's scorer-in-chief was Pa Bourke, who scored 0-11 on the day including three 65s, but he will have his regrets about the turn of events as he spurned a last-minute opportunity to level matters from a free.
