Ulster club SFC: Glenties power past Clontibret

November 01, 2010
A dominant second half display saw Naomh Conaill record a surprisingly comfortable victory over Clontibret in yesterday's AIB Ulster club SFC quarter-final at Ballybofey.

Naomh Conaill (Donegal) 2-12
Clontibret (Monaghan) 0-9

Clontibret were the team with all the experience in the provincial championship, but they had no answer to second half goals from Leon Thompson and Dermot 'Brick' Molloy for the Donegal champions. The visitors were far too reliant on county star Conor McManus, who accounted for all but two of their points.

The Glenites men were slow out of the blocks and were denied three goals in the opening half, one of them from a 12th minute penalty when Paul McElroy saved from Anthony Thompson.

Clontibret led by 0-5 to 0-2 with five minutes remaining in the first half, but a late scoring burst saw the home side take a 0-7 to 0-5 lead into the break.

Naomh Conaill extended their advantage on the restart before goals from Thompson and Molloy in the 45th minute and in stoppage-time sealed their place in the semi-final against Tyrone's Coalisland.
